Rugby World Cuo 2027 Predictions
Here are my 2027 Rugby World Cup predictions from the Round of 16 stage
Round of 16 — my predictions
R16 (1) · 23 October
Fiji (Pool C runner-up) vs Wales (Pool F runner-up)
Prediction: Fiji win
Fiji's attacking flair gives them the edge in a potentially close game.
R16 (2) · 23 October
New Zealand (Pool A winner) vs Spain (projected third-place qualifier)
Prediction: New Zealand win
The All Blacks should have too much power, pace and experience.
R16 (3) · 23 October
France (Pool E winner) vs Scotland (Pool D runner-up)
Prediction: France win
Scotland could make this uncomfortable, but France have the higher ceiling.
R16 (4) · 23 October
South Africa (Pool B winner) vs Tonga (projected third-place qualifier)
Prediction: South Africa win
Tonga have dangerous ball-carriers, but the Springboks should control the forward battle.
R16 (5) · 24 October
Argentina (Pool C winner) vs Samoa (projected third-place qualifier)
Prediction: Argentina win
Argentina's tactical kicking and experience should get them through.
R16 (6) · 24 October
Ireland (Pool D winner) vs Georgia (projected third-place qualifier)
Prediction: Ireland win
Georgia's scrum could cause problems, but Ireland should have more attacking variety.
R16 (7) · 24 October
Australia (Pool A runner-up) vs Japan (Pool E runner-up)
Prediction: Australia win
Home advantage and physicality give Australia the advantage, though Japan could spring a surprise.
R16 (8) · 24 October
England (Pool F winner) vs Italy (Pool B runner-up)
Prediction: England win
Italy are improving, but I expect England's depth to make the difference.
The quarter-final bracket that follows
The official bracket creates these four potential matchups.
QF1
New Zealand vs South Africa
Winner: South Africa
QF2
Fiji vs France
Winner: France
QF3
Argentina vs Ireland
Winner: Argentina
QF4
Australia vs England
Winner: England
That gives me two semi-finals:
- South Africa vs France — South Africa advance.
- Argentina vs England — England advance.
My projected final is therefore South Africa vs England, with South Africa winning the World Cup.
